Happy Reading Camp

Welcome to HAPPY Reading Camp!

Summer Day Camps that Focus on Reading

It's summer camp and so much more. HAPPY Reading camps are all about your child.  Each day overflows with variety, hands-on learning, fitness, fun and HAPPY surprises... and each camper's experience is tailored precisely to what that camper needs to excel as a reader.

Kids who attend our camp will make strides in spelling, decoding, fluency, and comprehension. They will discover a deeper appreciation for books and reading... among friends who share their interests.

And they will enhance their overall literacy skills including: Speaking, Listening, Reading, and Writing!

When and Where: Choose one week, two weeks or more! We strongly suggest at least two weeks to allow time for assessment and implementation of the optimal program for your child. All campers will be assessed at the start of camp, but only those who attend for at least two weeks will receive a full assessment afterwards.

For 2016, HAPPY Reading is hosting camps in central Virginia for a total of 6 weeks. Enrollment is open for children who are at least 4 but younger than 13 years old. Decide which locations, dates and special themes appeal most to you. All camps are full-day, running from 8:30am to 5:30pm Monday through Friday.

NEW THIS YEAR: We are holding camp for fewer weeks and locations this summer, but there are more themes than ever before! Also, campers will go swimming 3 days each week and will enjoy one field trip during each two-week camp. To cover transportation and admission fees, there will be a $20 OUT AND ABOUT FEE per session, per camper ($10 for campers attending only one week AND not taking a field trip; $15 for campers attending one week AND taking the field trip). The OUT AND ABOUT fee will be due on the first day of camp.

Campers may enroll for one week or multiple weeks at any of the camp locations. Please take care that you do not choose the same week at two different camps. The payment scale (shown on our Paypal drop-down menus and on the final page of the registration form) reflects discounts for multiple campers and/or multiple weeks. Weeks of enrollment do not have to be consecutive. To enroll, please complete one Camp Registration and Medical Consent form for each camper. You may pay collectively online or by mailing in a check. But there MUST be a separate registration form for each camper. Early bird registration saves you the one-time, additional registration fee of $25 per camper, which will be due for each camper enrolled after June 1st. The one-time, additional fee increases to $50 per camper after camps have begun on June 20th. This is in addition to the OUT AND ABOUT FEE for transportation and field trips, new for 2016.

What could be better? Campers will strengthen essential reading skills, dive in to compelling books and stories... and have lots of fun with new friends...while moving, playing, singing, creating...and learning about the things they love best.  Some famous characters may stop by for visits and other special guests will entertain us and educate at the same time. Campers will not only improve their literacy skills and grow in confidence, but also they will have the opportunity to earn incentive prizes for their hard work...prizes that include new books to own!
