Highlighted Skill Areas – Decoding and Confidence
-A crafty approach to reading fun, as we will be making puppets
-Discovery of a wide variety of puppet styles as well as the history of puppetry
-Opportunities to use puppets in storytelling and performance
-Connecting stories in books with oral traditions and performance arts
-Art, play, sports and other activities…connected with reading and grade-level standards
-Reader’s theater for fun and practice (All the world’s a stage for reader’s theater and for puppets!)
-Personalized, individual and small group instruction -Respectful staff with high expectations and effective technique
-At least two hours of direct reading, writing and spelling instruction daily
-Introduction to age- and developmentally-appropriate text
-Opportunities to earn incentive rewards, including new books, for effort and progress
-Morning and afternoon snack provided daily AND a camp t-shirt for each camp attended
