Highlighted Skill Areas – Comprehension and Writing
-Approaching books with writing in mind
-Author study, review of varied writing styles and techniques, group discussion
-Finding favorite stories and poems as mentor texts
-Practice writing for different audiences and purposes
-Utilizing imagination for colorful writing and structure for greater technical proficiency
-Activities and presentations connected with reading and grade-level standards
-Reader’s theater for fun and practice (They’ll want to write home about it!)
-Personalized, individual and small group instruction
-Respectful staff with high expectations and effective technique
-At least two hours of direct reading, writing and spelling instruction daily
-Introduction to age- and developmentally-appropriate text
-Opportunities to earn incentive rewards, including new books, for effort and progress
-Morning and afternoon snack provided daily AND a camp t-shirt for each camp attended
